Baker wants to know 'what happened and why' in Hernandez death

The former New England Patriots star, who was serving a life-sentence for the murder of Odin Lloyd in 2013, was found dead in his jail cell at 3am (7pm NZ time) on Wednesday after he apparently hanged himself with a bedsheet tied to a window.

The 27-year-old Hernandez, who was serving a life sentence for the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd, a semipro football player dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée, was discovered hanged in his MA prison cell early Wednesday.

"Lifesaving techniques were attempted on Mr. Hernandez and he was transported to UMASS Leominster where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m.by a physician at the hospital". Hernandez's apparent suicide came five days after he was acquitted for the 2012 killings of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado. Hernandez, a former National Football League star, who was serving a life sentence for a murder conviction and Friday, April 14, 2017, was acquitted.

Authorities said that Hernandez, 27, did not leave a suicide note and was not under suicide watch at his MA prison, where he had been since his 2015 conviction of the 2013 death of Odin Lloyd.

The Patriots made two Super Bowl appearances without its star tight end after Hernandez was taken into custody in 2013.

They have yet to release the incident report, officers' logs, video footage from the area around Hernandez's cell and other details about prison protocol, despite repeated requests from The Associated Press.

Hernandez's death occurred the same day the Patriots visit the White House to mark their remarkable win in February's Super Bowl.

Fallon said he was not aware of any suicide note and officials had no reason to believe Hernandez was suicidal.

And he praised her bravery in revealing through an open letter previous year that she lives with post-traumatic stress disorder. Heads Together most recently launched a series of films centered around the importance of speaking up about mental health.

Hernandez helped the University of Florida win the 2008 NCAA championship, but he dropped to the fourth round of the National Football League draft because of his behavior in college, where he failed a drug test, he was accused of punching a bar employee, and his name came up in an investigation into a shooting.

Hernandez was acquitted last week in connection with a 2012 double murder case.

The station also reported that another inmate, a friend of Hernandez's who was one of the last to see him, is under suicide watch at the prison's health service unit. As the jury deliberated, cameras spied Hernandez blowing kisses to the young daughter he fathered with fiancee Shayanna Jenkins.

Investigators suggested Hernandez shot Lloyd to keep him quiet about the two earlier killings. You can't say you don't think about these things.

Baez had been helping Hernandez appeal his murder conviction, and as a result of his death before exhausting the legal process, that conviction will be voided. You've got a heart.

Friends were grieving in CT, where Hernandez was raised.

Hernandez's acquittal, Monroe said, hinged on the testimony of star witness Alexander Bradley, a convict himself who he said jurors deemed unreliable. That's the conviction that got him sentenced to life without parole.

Many other questions remain unanswered, including why Hernandez would kill himself just days after the he was cleared of two murder charges. "Something just doesn't add up", added cousin Randy Garcia.
