Clive Davis doccie opens Tribeca Film Festival with a bang

Apple Music has bought the rights to the documentary "Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives", which opens the Tribeca Film Festival Wednesday evening at the Radio City Music Hall.

"Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives" is directed by Chris Perkel and based on the 2013 autobiography from Davis. Artists, celebrities and music fans packed into Radio City Music Hall to watch the screening of the documentary "Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives". The news was announced on the eve of its premiere tonight at Radio City Music Hall. Christina Ricci attends the world premiere of "Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives" at Radio City Music Hall, during the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, Wednesday, April 19, 2017, in NY. In addition to footage of Houston's first television appearance, The Soundtrack Of Our Lives includes an early demo of I Wanna Dance With Somebody. But for the most part, the movie offers a warm and rosy picture of the longtime head of Columbia and Arista records, who is portrayed as a devoted music fan, a dedicated family man, a savvy business person and a trusted guardian angel for artists.

"I had no inkling that music would be my passion of life", he said in an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday from his office at the new Sony building in Manhattan.

"I think the film beautifully captures the real Whitney that you have never seen", Davis told Inside Edition.

The film really hones in on Davis' musical instincts, that is, his ability to find a hit record and pair it with the best artist - and that "gift he didn't know he had" has given us the likes of Billy Joel, Earth Wind and Fire, Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys - Sean Puffy Combs' Bad Boy Records as well as as LA Face Records which gave us Toni Braxton, TLC, Pink and Outkast.

The documentary also dives into his working relationship with others artists like Barry Manilow, whom Davis helped turn into a top-selling recording artist.

"Apple is a global innovator that has revolutionized the distribution of music".
