Fresno gunman gave police blow-by-blow of shootings of 3 men

Muhammad is then believed to have walked on through downtown Fresno, shooting at another white person and missing, sparing two women in a vehicle who were Latina, and then fatally shooting two more white men, aged 37 and 58, all within less than two minutes before he was taken into custody by police.

Muhammad had a long criminal history and filled his social media feeds with posts about black separatism, reparations and "white devils".

"I can't think of an incident we've had for a long period of time that even got close to what we saw today", said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

"He does not like white people, and he has anti-government sentiments", the chief said, adding that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had been alerted. "We believe it is a hate crime, definitely a hate crime".

He surrendered while shouting: "Allahu Akhbar", which means "God is great" in Arabic, police said, adding they had not yet recovered the weapon Muhammad discarded.

Two others also were shot and killed. "He said he didn't like white men and white men were responsible for keeping black men down".

After Kori Ali Muhammad learned that he was wanted for the death of a security guard last week, he wanted to take out as many other white men as possible, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said.

The shooting began around 10:45 local time near the headquarters for Catholic Charities. Within a few seconds, a second burst of gunfire was heard, then a third and a fourth.

Muhammad had shorn off the braids featured in his wanted pictures and YouTube videos, fired 16 rounds in less than two minutes at four places within a block.

Dyer identified the victims of yesterday's shooting, which included 37-year-old Mark Gassett, 58-year-old David Jackson and 34-year-old Pacific Gas and Electric Company worker Zachary Randalls.

Three people were killed in what police said is an anti-white hate crime.

An officer in the area spotted the gunman running south on Fulton. "He's not going to kill anyone else".

Muhammad, 39, told investigators he is Muslim but prays to seven different gods. But the phrase has also been linked to terrorist attacks.

The victims in Tuesday's attack were not immediately identified.

Muhammad shot the guard, 25-year-old Carl Williams, multiple times at close range shortly after 11 p.m., police said — an act that would set off a chain of events leading to Tuesday's mass shooting. "I felt for a pulse and not that I know what I'm doing but I couldn't find one and someone turned him over and he was very obviously dead", said Aaron Van Curen. He was crying, but she believed he was simply going out of town.

"He would do the same thing for me", he told CNN's Brooke Baldwin on Wednesday, just one day after his friend's death. "I'll protect you. Don't you worry about it.' He really didn't want to go but he was going".

"Kori Muhammad is a very calloused individual".

The rambling profile includes militant and apocalyptic language and repeated demands to "let black people go". In one of his missives, he praised skin cancer. The gunman pumped two more rounds into Gassett as he lay on the ground, police said.

The two were waiting for the bus when authorities say Kori Ali Muhammad, who is black, targeted the white men at random.

On what appeared to be his Facebook page, he repeatedly posted '#LetBlackPeopleGo" and encouraged "black warriors" to "mount up'.

"It looks like a guy carrying his groceries home from the store", said Hughes, 66, who rushed home after receiving a frantic call about the shootings from a neighbor.

Officials say she put bacon strips on door handles. "If he didn't like what they did, he didn't like what they did no matter the color". "Kori Muhammad is not a terrorist, but he is a racist", Fresno Police Dept.

He claimed insanity after being charged with possessing cocaine with intent to distribute in 2005, and his attorney requested a psychiatric examination, saying Muhammad "appeared eccentric with some freakish beliefs". Muhammad is a convicted felon on previous drug charges and will be charged with illegal possession of a firearm, as California law requires.
