Katy Perry faces wrath as she posts picture of Goddess Kali

As a result, the post has received over 12,000 comments varying in tone, a lot of them claiming the singer's image disrespects Indian culture.

Yesterday, the "Kissed A Girl" singer - who recently split from long-time boyfriend, Orlando Bloom - uploaded a photograph to her 63.5million Instagram followers of an Indian goddess, along with the caption "current mood".

There were a host of hateful and abusive comments following the post claiming that Katy Perry's post was disrespectful to the Goddess.

"This is a shameful and offensive act".

One user wrote: "Please Katy!"

According to Instagram users, the image depicts the Hindu goddess, Kali, seen to be a divine protector.

Katy Perry has invited the wrath of Indians.

She told Marie Claire in an interview in 2013: 'I'm not Buddhist, I'm not Hindu, I'm not Christian, but I still feel like I have a deep connection with God. I pray all the time - for self-control, for humility. "There's a lot of gratitude in it", she continued.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry reportedly stayed at the Oberoi Vanyavilas hotel during their wedding trip. Her post did not go well with the social media users, who were quick to lash out at the singer. "I am a very proud Indian, but not at all offended by this". Shouldn't we be proud that our culture is recognized (sp) around the world?
