Manchester City hit three past Southampton to go third

Kompany will have garnered many headlines for his goal but it was his calming, imperious and faultless defensive display that will have been most pleasing for City manager Pep Guardiola.

The City boss has been particularly frustrated by his side's failures at the Etihad Stadium. They almost had it when, after an extended spell in the City half, the Saints captain flicked a header just over Claudio Bravo's crossbar.

"The performance was really good", said Guardiola after the match.

"Our problem is that we have dropped a lot of points at home", said Guardiola. The difference is the attitude, not the quality, which will be constantly there.

City are now seven points clear of Everton in fifth and sixth-placed Manchester United, who play Chelsea on Sunday as one of two games in hand on their neighbours.

"In the first half we controlled the game but Southampton were good out wide".

"When this happens I feel I'm giving something back to the fans".

City wrapped up the win with two goals in three minutes.

Strident Trump targets Canadian trade on energy, lumber, dairy files
On energy, the current NAFTA guarantees the US a fixed rate of Canada's oil production without any import fees. The U.S. industry told Trump that was a "direct violation" of Canada's trade commitments to the U.S.

Antonio Conte, in contrast, has made just 33, and Mauricio Pochettino 61. That was until some nifty footwork from Nathan Redmond left makeshift right-back Jesus Navas in no-man's-land and allowed the recently ordained England global to find Manolo Gabbiadini in the channel. "We showed we could make good opportunities against this team but it was not sufficient and it was hard for us".

The opening goal arrived 55 minutes in thanks to returning skipper Kompany, who climbed higher than Maya Yoshida to head home his first top-flight goal in 20 months.

Which is why he savours scoring a goal more than ever.

"It's always a long journey back", Kompany told BT Sport television.

"I have been lucky I can make..." Where I am at physically does not matter.

Kompany knows it may be tough going for him to play against Arsenal and United in the space of five days. "I can not say how much it is valuable because if I was 20 years old I would not have done it that way but I am lucky to have good players surrounding me". 'Me, Stones, Otamendi. It is a cliche but we have to take things game-by-game.

And want nothing more than Kompany to stay fit for the rest of the season.
