Nintendo Switch Great Comeback Story: Fastest Seller in Nintendo History

Nintendo Switch Great Comeback Story: Fastest Seller in Nintendo History

We knew the Switch got off to a rousing start in Europe, smashing Nintendo's previous platform sales records, but we didn't know just how strong U.S. sales would be after the initial launch.

Well, we also have some good news for all Nintendo Switch owners, as it has been confirmed that Minecraft will also be released for this console.

The Wii U sold roughly 400,000 in its first week and close to 890,000 units in its first six weeks, even though its 2012 launch landed in the more holiday-friendly month of November.

As a response to this stronger than expected start, SuperData now projects that the Switch will sell 7.2 million consoles in 2017. Nintendo notes that this sales surge was accomplished in a non-traditional month for a console launch.

It's great to see Nintendo is smashing barriers left and right, and this enormous influx of earnings will be re-invested into the company's operational cashflow to ensure more games, content, and experiences feed its new Switch platform.

Breath of the Wild is the fastest-selling Nintendo launch title ever and the fastest-selling Zelda title across its entire 30-year history.

We knew the Nintendo Switch was off to a good start, based on USA sales numbers from March NPD numbers, but now it appear that the young upstart console has broken Nintendo's expectations with more than 2.4 million units sold worldwide. And the Nintendo Switch therefore has broken all records.

According to the NPD Group, Nintendo has revealed that the Nintendo Switch sold more than 900,000 units in North America. The reported Breath of the Wild numbers, on the other hand, come directly from "Nintendo's internal sales figures" (including downloaded copies). Do you think Nintendo's newest console will be successful as the Wii had been?

Nintendo needed a hit after its previous console, the Wii U, flopped.

Sony had nothing to say, but but they've managed to outpace the Xbox One five months in a row with the PS4, so that's better than nothing. You might notice that number is a great deal more than the number of Switches sold.
