Patriots hit back at New York Times over White House tweet

The New England Patriots visited the White House on Wednesday, as is tradition, to celebrate their Super Bowl LI victory over the Atlanta Falcons. The star has cited a "personal family matter' as the reason he's not attending the White House ceremony".

Casting a pall over the ceremony was the news about Hernandez, who hanged himself in a prison cell hours before the White House visit, according to MA prison officials.

It said, "I am so happy and excited that our team is being honored at the White House today". He did not provide further details, although the Boston Herald reported that he was spending time with his mother, who has been dealing with an illness for the a year ago. This is our fifth Super Bowl in the last 16 years, and every time we've had the privilege of going to the White House, a dozen of our players don't go.

It's worth noting Trump didn't mention Tom Brady once during his remarks, as the quarterback was not there.

Tom Brady isn't visiting the White House with the New England Patriots on Wednesday, April 19th. The team has not officially commented on this development.

The President, who identifies as a friend and fan of Brady's, also has ties to Patriots owner Bob Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick.

The man who's spent the offseason body-slamming professional wrestlers and spiking footballs in an Easter bunny costume interrupted Sean Spicer's press briefing to ask if the press secretary needed any help.

The Patriots, who are owned by Trump donor Robert Kraft, eventually tweeted their own "comparable" photo to combat theories that a sizable number of their players and staff had boycotted this week's event.

"I think I got this, but thank you", the spokesman replied.

Hightower said he had "been there, done that", after he visited the White House as a member of Alabama's national championship team in 2012.

Defensive back Devin McCourty said he wouldn't attend because he doesn't feel welcome at the White House. "With the president having so many strong opinions and prejudices, I believe certain people might feel accepted there while others won't".
