Spicer responded laughingly, "I think I got this, but thank you, um, maybe".

Brady made headlines for having a Donald Trump baseball cap in his locker after Trump became a candidate in 2015.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski crashed Sean Spicer's White House press briefing on Wednesday, on the day that the Super Bowl champs were visiting the White House.

"Uh, okay, thanks, man", Spicer said with a grin. "Uh". They were joined, of course, by head coach and Trump supporter Bill Belichick to greet the president on an overcast spring afternoon. Tight end Martellus Bennett and defensive end Chris Long, who have since signed elsewhere as free agents, indicated that they wouldn't make the trip because they were not fans of Trump. Two players were brought to speak to reporters after the White House ceremony, but both said they had not known Hernandez.

Reiss points out that Brady's mother attended only one game this season, the Super Bowl, due to an ongoing illness.

Quarterback Tom Brady is also skipping the visit, citing "personal family matters".

One player made an impromptu appearance at a White House press before the official ceremony. During Spicer's live press briefing, the 27-year-old athlete strolled onto the scene to check if Spicer was okay in what Fox News calls a "lighthearted moment".

The New England Patriots visited the White House Wednesday, meeting President Donald Trump to celebrate their Super Bowl LI championship.

Besides Brady, at least six members of the team were not expected at Wednesday's event.

McCourty told Time he didn't feel "accepted in the White House".

This isn't the first time Gisele Bundchen's husband has declined an invitation to the White House.

The rest of the Patriots will still attend the ceremony honoring the team for its Super Bowl win, despite Hernandez's suicide.
