8 people now seated on jury in Bill Cosby's sex assault case

Officials at Montgomery County's tourist bureau can not predict whether Bill Cosby's sex assault trial in Norristown will provide an economic boost for area hotels and restaurants.

The jury that will hear Bill Cosby's sexual assault case was filling up quickly Tuesday as lawyers and prosecutors worked to select panelists who they believed would be favourable to their side.

The jury now consists of seven men and four women - all but one of them white - in a case that Cosby says may have racial undertones.

Although Cosby recently cited racism as the reason that more than 50 women had come forward against him as well as the media attention surrounding his case, three black women were dismissed as potential jurors.

The jurors selected Tuesday included a black woman who said she knew only "basic information" about the case, a young white man who initially expressed a tendency to believe police, and two people who said they don't read or watch the news.

Cosby's trial on charges of sexually assaulting a former Temple University employee is set to start June 5.

In making his picks, O'Neill will likely not attempt to find people who have not heard of the case, but simply push for jurors who vow to base their verdict exclusively on the evidence presented at trial.

Democrats Oppose Lieberman as FBI Director
He made headlines in 2000 as Vice President Al Gore's running mate in a contest that made him the first national Jewish candidate. The media won't be thrilled with someone like Joe Lieberman , who's considered the front-runner.

And at one point, he remonstrated with his lawyers when they were discussing the acceptability of a middle-age white woman.

The first group of 100 potential jurors summoned this week includes 16 people of colour. She said she went seeking career advice as she considered leaving her job managing the women's basketball team at Temple University.

Of the 100 potential jurors questioned on Monday, 86 of them said they had previous knowledge of the case, CNN is reporting. Constand then filed a civil suit against Cosby, and in a deposition that was, in part, later unsealed by the court, he claimed he gave Constand Benadryl and said that their sexual encounter was consensual. But the judge denied a request to move the trial from Montgomery County, which Cosby had sought due to pretrial publicity. Constand says that during a visit to Cosby's Cheltenham mansion in 2004, she complained of a headache and Cosby encouraged her to take three blue pills.

Cosby, who is not expected to testify in the trial, has said that he believes race may have played a role in the accusations of drugging and/or sexual misconduct made against him by many women.

Constand was 30 and dating a woman at the time, while Cosby was 66 and long married to wife Camille.

Two more people have been chosen in Pittsburgh to serve on the jury that will hear Bill Cosby's sex assault case. Cosby was arrested on December 30, 2015, days before the 12-year statute of limitations expired. He has pleaded not guilty and remains free on $1 million bail.

He told a talk show host last week that he hopes to beat back the charges and resume his career. "I want to get back to the laughter and the enjoyment of things that I've written and things that I perform on stage".
