Anthony Weiner cries while apologizing in court

David Schaefer, a spokesman for the law firm Covington & Burling, whose attorney, Arlo Devlin-Brown, is representing Weiner, said the former congressman's lawyer will comment later Friday.

He retreated into private life, raising his son with his wife Huma Abedin, a close adviser to Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee.

Anthony Weiner, the disgraced former congressman from NY, pleaded guilty Friday to one charge of transferring obscene material to a minor after he was investigated for sending sexual messages to a 15-year-old girl last year.

Weiner, 51, will plead guilty to a single charge of transferring obscene material to a minor.

In court, the 52-year-old former Democratic congressman paused repeatedly as he fought back tears and tried to compose himself.

The FBI began investigating Weiner in September after a 15-year-old North Carolina girl told the Daily Mail, a British tabloid, that she and Weiner exchanged lewd messages for several months. As part of his plea deal, he has agreed not to appeal any sentence of 27 months or less, Reuters says.

Trump mulling over Jerusalem embassy move: Tillerson
The Old City is home to Islam's third-holiest site, the al-Aqsa mosque, which sits atop Judaism's holiest site, the Temple Mount. He will officially take up his role when he presents his credentials to Israeli President Reuven Rivlin on Tuesday.

This discovery prompted then-FBI director James Comey to announce in late October that he was re-opening the investigation into Clinton's emails.

Mrs Clinton, who was leading in national polls at the time, has blamed her loss to Donald Trump in part on Mr Comey's announcement, even though he said two days before the election in November that the review had uncovered no new evidence.

This discovery led the Federal Bureau of Investigation to revisit the case of Clinton's personal email use as secretary of state - while the case was again shuttered, Clinton has since cited that development as contributing to her defeat. Weiner will appear in federal court, Friday, May 19, 2017, to face criminal charges in an investigation of his online communications with a teenage girl in North Carolina.

Weiner, a Democrat who represented a New York City congressional district, resigned from his House seat in 2011 after he accidentally tweeted an explicit photo of himself that he had meant to send to a supporter. He said he ended the habit, but it resurfaced in 2013, leading him to pull out of the race for NY mayor that year.

Abedin, a top aide to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton past year, separated from Weiner in September after revelations he had sent more sexually charged messages online.
