Blood gang members indicted in massive roundup

According to the United States Attorney's Office, more than 600 federal, state and local law enforcement officers executed the arrest warrants Thursday morning in Charlotte, Cleveland County, and eastern North Carolina.

The FBI's successful crackdown on the United Blood Nation street gang continued Friday, with news that three suspects on the run were caught.

The arrests followed the return of a 160-plus page indictment that targeted 83 gang members in North and South Carolina, New York City, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

"This indictment represents 6 dead, 9 attempted murders, robberies, guns and drug distribution", said U.S. Attorney Jill Westmoreland Rose. In a new development, many of named in the indictment were charged with white-collar crimes such as identity theft and credit card fraud - a sign that gang members are become more sophisticated and diversified, authorities said.

The FBI raids conducted Thursday were largely focused in North Carolina, though arrests were made in Florida, South Carolina and NY.

Now a new list of defendants, with gang names ranging from "Hardbody", "Lady Rude", "Kutthroat" and "Lady Gunz" have been accused of a total of 20 crimes in Charlotte, Gastonia, Concord and Shelby, six North Carolina counties in all.

The indictments include murder charges in the deaths of Jimmy Ray Daniels Jr., Cheeontah Howard and Malik Brown.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and local police staged raids across the Charlotte area Thursday morning at dawn, arrested most of the suspects without serious incidents. "This tells me that this is a gang that will use its power to intimidate people", she said. Teams of agents and officers conducted the roundup of dozens of gang members.
