Making her Cannes debut Return of Xander Cage star Deepika Padukone looked flawless in a purple hued Marchesa gown with intricate sequin embellishments. Yep, the same event where Priyanka Chopra won hearts (and also became a meme) as she walked the red carpet wearing that trench coat with a long train.

And let's not forget about red carpet veterans Julianne Moore, Uma Thurman, and Jessica Chastain. To be honest, she totally got away with it and still stood out as one of our favourite looks of the evening.

Elle, 19, opted for a more ostentatious look with a unicorn-printed Vivienne Westwood ballgown with an oversized, trailing skirt.

The very youthful Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of actor Johnny Depp and singer Vanessa Paradis, looked every inch a nymph in a creamy white Chanel dress that featured gold-embellished detailing around the waist.

Fashion and films collide as is the tradition at Cannes with the celebrities parading one spectacular gown after another. "Like it is just a city of carpet are there films anymore", she wrote.
