David Ayer In Early Talks To Direct 'Scarface' Reboot

David Ayer In Early Talks To Direct 'Scarface' Reboot

Today, we have word that Suicide Squad director David Ayer is getting ready to take on the project. Martin Bregman, producer of the 1983 "Scarface" film, will also produce. It's nearly a religion in the same way that Star Wars has become one. Ayer doesn't make good movies exactly, but before getting derailed by DC, he made some pretty insane ones.

Peter Berg (Patriots Day) and David MacKenzie (Hell or High Water) had emerged as the frontrunners to direct in February following Antoine Fuqua's exit from the project due to scheduling conflicts but it seems Ayer is now the hot choice after his super villain team-up flick Suicide Squad grossed $745.6 million at the global box office.

New sanctions coming for Venezuela officials
But near-daily anti-government protests were triggered by the ruling and have continued across the country, with more than 40 people killed.

Anyone who knows David Ayer knows he's a true maniac. Ayer has actually been linked to this movie for a while, as he was originally hired to write the script for the movie in 2011. Scarface has already been set for an August 2018 premiere. The movie will be set in Los Angeles and will incorporate many modern elements into the mix. Don't worry, there won't be any zombies in the Scarface reboot. But perhaps weirder yet is the fact that famed duo The Coen Brothers wrote the latest version of the script. So you can expect some oddball humor to seep in. "Scarface" will be produced by Dylan Clark for his Dylan Clark Productions and Scott Stuber.

Next up for Ayer is Netflix's Bright starring Will Smith as a Los Angeles Police Department police officer who teams up with an Orc cop in a world that's populated by humans and mythical creatures. Plus, it presumably keeps him away from Gotham City Sirens, a film I'd much rather see someone else - anyone else - step in to direct.
