Deputy AG to brief Senate on Mueller nod; Trump unhappy with move

The U.S. Justice Department has appointed former FBI director Robert Mueller as special counsel to oversee the agency's investigation into alleged meddling by Russian Federation in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion between the Kremlin and President Donald Trump's campaign.

"The American people deserve to know the facts about Russian efforts to disrupt the 2016 election, any involvement with the Trump campaign, and any attempt by the President or other officials to improperly influence the Federal Bureau of Investigation", he continued.

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Thursday he believes the Justice Department's Russian Federation probe is "now considered a criminal investigation", comments he made following the all-senators' briefing with deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Democratic senator Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton's 2016 running mate, referred to Mueller's appointment as a "good move", USA Today reported, and Republican congressman Jason Chaffetz said he was a "great selection". Tim Scott, R-S.C. "I do think that the special prosecutor provides a sense of calm and confidence perhaps for the American people, which is incredibly important".

"With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign & Obama Administration, there was never a special councel appointed!" "Mr. Rosenstein has done the right thing", Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY said on the Senate floor.

"I believe it hurts our country terribly, because it shows we're a divided, mixed-up, not-unified country", Trump said at a luncheon with a group of television news anchors.

But he expressed more resentment Thursday in his tweets. He gave no examples.

Addressing the press before Mourinho, Wenger had played down the significance of his first league victory over the Portuguese. Michael Carrick is "desperate" to end the season - and perhaps his Manchester United career - with Europa League glory.

"I fully support the decision to appoint former FBI Director Robert Mueller to oversee the ongoing investigation into Russian Federation", said U.S. Sen. As special counsel, Mueller will be able to [BBC report] issue subpoenas, bring criminal charges, and can prosecute anyone who interferes in his investigation through crimes including perjury, destruction of evidence, obstruction of justice, and intimidation of witnesses. That would surely include Trump's firing last week of FBI Director James Comey. Evidence of Russia's attempt to influence the US election has been confirmed even by administration officials, including the secretary of state.

The House intelligence committee is asking for more government documents - this time about the ouster of FBI Director Jim Comey and conversations he had with President Donald Trump about investigations into Russian meddling in the election.

"He was so respected during his time as FBI Director that President Obama asked Congress to allow Mr. Mueller to stay in office for an additional two years beyond the normal 10-year term limit", Lamborn said.

Rosenstein said the Mueller appointment was "necessary in order for the American people to have full confidence in the outcome".

Trump is preparing to leave town Friday on his first foreign trip, and aides have been hopeful the journey will be a chance for the administration to get back on track after weeks of chaos and distractions.
