Former Senator Lieberman is front-runner for FBI post -Politico, CNN

Lieberman, who President Donald Trump interviewed on Wednesday, was the vice presidential running mate when Democrat Al Gore ran for the White House in 2000.

The interviews came more than a week after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, who was overseeing an investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential election.

Former U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman of CT met with President Donald Trump on Wednesday as one of four potential candidates to be the nation's next FBI Director. McCabe was tapped to become acting director after Trump dismissed Comey on May 9.

The president also replied "he is" when asked whether Lieberman is a top candidate for the position.

Lieberman, while in the Senate, served two separate stints as chair of the Senate Homeland Security Committee from 2001-2003 and a third stint from 2007-2013. He's also a Democrat, and while Lieberman was respected by both major parties throughout his tenure, his past affiliation may cause trouble during the confirmation process. He lost to a Senate primary challenger in 2006 and only retained his seat after he switched his party to independent.

President Donald Trump is considering former Connecticut Sen.

Lieberman was Connecticut's attorney general decades ago.

"If they wanted me, I certainly would be honored, but I really don't think that's going to happen", Keating told The Oklahoman after his interview. He also was the USA attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma and served in a law enforcement position in Washington during the administration of former President Ronald Reagan. John McCain's presidential bid in 2008 over Barack Obama, speaking at the Republican National Convention that year. He was the lead case agent on the Oklahoma City federal building bombing in 1995, when Keating was governor, and he was the FBI's on-scene commander after the September 11, 2001, attack on the Pentagon.

A number of members of Congress and other Republican and Democratic leaders have also called the White House to voice their support of former MI congressman and Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Mike Rogers for director.

Several other candidates have withdrawn from consideration, including Rep. Trey Gowdy and Sen.
