Jason Chaffetz to Resign From Congress June 30

Honestly, I've been wondering if another shoe was about to drop in this story since last month.

Sitting on his couch with his wife Julie and petting their dog, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Ruby, Chaffetz said he had been stunned by two of his children's upcoming moves from Utah and the realization he and his wife would be empty-nesters soon. At a joint White House news conference with the President of Colombia, the President also had especially tough words for former Director James Comey, whom he fired just over a week ago, saying Comey was not the right person to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Chaffetz was often criticized for being slow to investigate allegations against the president, including questions about his campaign's ties to Russian Federation and conflicts of interests related to Trump's businesses.

The statement did not mention the investigation he is overseeing as the oversight committee chair into President Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey and the Trump campaign's role in Russia's alleged efforts to meddle in the 2016 presidential election.

Sources told Politico that Chaffetz will likely resign from office on June 30.

"I started poking around to see what I might be worth and what sort of possibilities are there", Chaffetz said in April.

Chaffetz's request comes after a New York Times report saying Comey wrote a memo about his conversation with Trump.

Anything that is admittedly bad in theology (a religious belief) and sinful in religion can never be masquerading as faith. If it is bad in theology, it can not be accepted in law-.What is morally wrong can not be legally right.

The White House has denied that Trump attempted to influence the investigation.

Herbert, whose chief of staff was at one time Chaffetz' chief of staff, said he hadn't talked directly with the congressman.

Chaffetz previously has not ruled out another run for public office at some point in the future.

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert on Thursday said his office is making plans to hold a special election to fill Chaffetz's seat - only the second time in state history a congressional vacancy has occurred.

After Trump won the election, Chaffetz became a lightning rod for criticism that Republicans weren't aggressively policing Trump.
