Korea hints at further nuclear, missile provocations

After being fired from a launch pad in the Kusong region early on Sunday, the projectile travelled around 500 miles before dropping into the Sea of Japan.

Under UN resolutions, North Korea is barred from developing nuclear and missile technology.

- "A substantial advance" - =========================== Kim personally oversaw Sunday's test, the official Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) said, and pictures by state media showed him gazing at the missile in a hangar before the launch.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today condemned North Korea over its latest ballistic missile launch and called on Pyongyang to return to denuclearization.

Pyongyang has carried out two atomic tests and dozens of missile launches since the beginning of 2016, with the Security Council adopting two sanctions resolutions a year ago to ramp up pressure and deny leader Kim Jong-Un the hard currency needed to fund his military programmes.

The missile flew 489 miles on a trajectory reaching an altitude of 1,312 miles, KCNA said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday the North's latest missile test was unsafe, but warned against attempts to "intimidate" Pyongyang.

Arvind Kejriwal opposed note ban as it threatened money laundering: Mishra
Mishra has also claimed that Jain had helped a relative of Kejriwal in finalising land deals and getting civic contracts. Mishra accused Kejriwal of corruption, claiming that he witnessed Jain handing over Rs 2 crore to the Chief Minister.

The reclusive North, which has defied all calls to rein in its weapons programs, has been working on a missile, mounted with a nuclear warhead, capable of striking the US mainland.

President Donald Trump's administration has called for an immediate halt to Pyongyang's provocations and has warned that the "era of strategic patience" with North Korea is over.

Pyongyang has regularly threatened to destroy the United States, which it accuses of pushing the Korean peninsula to the brink of nuclear war by conducting recent military drills with South Korea and Japan.

But, he added: "We must stop intimidating North Korea and find a peaceful solution to this problem".

The statement also condemned an earlier ballistic missile launch by Pyongyang on April 28 - following that launch, Washington began talks with China on possible new United Nations sanctions.

Putin joins China and new South Korean president Moon Jae-in in calling for talks with the North. Traditionally, the United States and China have negotiated new measures before involving remaining council members.

The North's state-run media agency said Sunday's test involved a mid-to-long range ballistic missile that could be blasted off and out of the planet's atmosphere and then return, and quoted leader Kim Jong Un as saying the US mainland is in "sighting range for a strike".
