Maiden flight of first China-made passenger plane important in aviation industry

State-owned manufacturer Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, or Comac, will seek certification from the civil aviation authority and foreign regulators before making any deliveries. It is expected to enter commercial service with China Eastern Airlines in 2019, and its maker, state-owned Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China says it already has 570 orders from 23 customers.

China took a step toward the aviation big leagues Friday with the long-delayed, but finally successful, maiden flight of its first modern passenger jet.

The C919, with over 150 seats and a standard range of 4,075 kilometers, is expected to compete with the updated Airbus 320 and Boeing's new-generation 737, which now dominate the market, the report said. The C919 can seat 168 passengers and has a range of up to 5,555 kilometres (3,444 miles).

China is a massive battleground for European consortium Airbus and USA aerospace giant Boeing, with the country's travel market expected to surpass the United States by 2024, according to the International Air Transport Association.

Comac itself functions as the main vehicle in implementing large passenger aircraft programs in China.

By 2035, COMAC aims to take a third of the Chinese narrowbody market and a fifth of the global market.

China's new passenger planes pose no immediate threat to Western aviation companies such as Boeing and Airbus. This includes the electrical system and landing gear, which are produced in the U.S. by Honeywell International.

Yankees' home runs back Sabathia in 7-1 rout of Royals
NY is also 10-2 in their last 12 games versus a left-handed starter, and 20-8 in their last 28 during game two of a series. Sabathia was never in trouble until the seventh, when Alex Gordon's infield single loaded the bases with two outs.

Demand for C919-class planes is also expected to just keep climbing as flying becomes more affordable and more people around the world become prosperous enough to afford air travel, so a new entrant has a chance to cash in.

The narrow-body aircraft took off from the Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Friday.

"The maiden flight is exciting", said Wu Guanghui, the C919's chief designer, hailing it as the start of a new era in China's advanced manufacturing.

"Seeing the C919 take off into the sky made me quite emotional", Wang Mingfeng, a witness to the test flight, told

In 2007, plans to develop a Chinese-built large passenger jet were approved by the State Council.

The landing gear was extended throughout the entire flight, which appeared to be uneventful.

The country was attempting to launch a commercially viable passenger jet since as far back as the 1970s, when Chairman Mao failed to find success in the endeavour. "For Honeywell, which has invested heavily in China's aviation industry, we are picking the victor", said Steven Lien, president of Honeywell Aerospace Asia Pacific. Mohshin said much of China's aircraft technology started from Russian Federation, and the Tianjin factory has since given China's supply chain vital experience.
