Man accused of jumping off plane onto tarmacat Charlotte airport

Tun Lon Sein was arrested and charged after biting a flight attendant and jumping off a plane Thursday.

A man is facing charges after he jumped out of a plane at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.

Sein stood up from his seat, went to the main aircraft door and tried to open it, but was stopped by a flight attendant, the complaint said.

Sein got up out of his seat after the fasten-seatbelt sign was illuminated.

According to a federal complaint, 22-year-old Tun Lon Sein was on an American Airlines flight when he attempted to bite a flight attendant, opened the exit door and jumped onto an active ramp.

Sein then allegedly bit the flight attendant's hand before opening the galley service door and jumping onto the tarmac. He was taken back the airport and later transferred to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment.

"Sein spoke little or no English during these events", the criminal complaint says. He appeared Friday morning in federal court.

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon when American Airlines flight 5242 from Charlotte to New Bern, NC, was holding near a taxiway, preparing for takeoff. However, they said circumstances surrounding his actions showed he understood directions of the Flight Attendants, as well as safety requirements of commercial travel. The passenger was apprehended by law enforcement and the plane was re-screened while the customers waited in the terminal.

The flight, scheduled to depart at 9:40 a.m., took off almost two hours behind schedule.
