Nadal to face Djokovic in Madrid semi-final

The same injury forced world number eight Nishikori, seeded sixth in Madrid, to miss the Barcelona Open last month.

"In history, we have never seen what he achieved during those years", Nadal said of Djokovic, via First Post.

Djokovic now faces either Rafael Nadal or ninth-seeded David Goffin for a place in the final.

"I've been playing at a high level for many weeks, but I know tomorrow is a day when either I'll have to play really well or I'm not going to have many chances".

I'm going to stick my neck on the line and go for the former (though without any great confidence).

But Nadal would be motivated by making history as he bids to become the first player in history to win all three ATP World Tour Masters 1000 clay-court events, the Barcelona Open and the French Open in the same season.

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are set to face off in the Men's singles semi-final of 2017 Madrid Open on Saturday, which will also be their 50th career meeting.

"Unfortunately I'm still not 100 percent so I'd prefer not to take a risk", the Japanese player told reporters. The third-seeded Halep, who lost the 2014 final to Maria Sharapova, will play Kristina Mladenovic of France.

And Cuevas landed the only break in the final game of the deciding set when Zverev fired wide to set up a semi-final against Dominic Thiem or Andy Murray's conqueror Borna Coric.

Nishikori said he wants to play next week in the Internazionali BNL d'Italia tourney in Rome and expressed hope to be healed as much as possible by the time of the French Open which gets under way on May 28.

It was Djokovic, who had dominated on the clay past year as he went on to win the Roland Garros title.
