Now the US Is Preparing to Sue Fiat Chrysler Over Diesel Emissions

The U.S. Department of Justice is poised to take action by next Wednesday if an agreement isn't reached, according to reports, from both Reuters and Bloomberg.

The company said it has been working cooperatively with the agencies for months and "is committed to addressing their questions concerning the emissions control software calibrations in 2014-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 vehicles equipped with 3.0 Liter V6 diesel engines".

The EPA and California Air Resources Board have been in talks with FCA about the excess emissions and whether the agencies would approve the sale of 2017 FCA diesel models. "In the case of any litigation, FCA US will defend itself vigorously, particularly against any claims that the Company deliberately installed defeat devices to cheat USA emissions tests".

The production of the Dieselgate emissions-cheating Volkswagens began on the German Transport's watch, and it was the German Transport department (KBU) who discovered an alleged software switch, or Defeat Device, that lead to Fiat Chrysler products to emit more in the real world.

Palestinians concerned over Trump's Mideast peace vision
Mr Abbas said he is ready to meet Mr Netanyahu, and suggested the Israeli leader is avoiding such talks. Abbas' positive portrayal of the meeting with Trump may not be enough for a skeptical public at home.

The possible lawsuit would be the result of the DOJ's ongoing investigation into the carmaker, which found emails related to engine development and emissions, according to the sources.

The European Commission said Wednesday that it has launched an infringement procedure against Italy over the emission control strategies employed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). When the EPA allegations first popped up in January, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne said this case was "completely different" from Volkswagen's and that he was "really ticked off".

"I was sorry to hear that despite all the detailed information we've supplied to the Commission and to Germany, you plan to open an infringement procedure", Italian Transport Minister Graziano Delrio wrote in a letter to EU Industry Commissioner Elzbieta Bienkowska, as confirmed by a spokeswoman.

In total, VW has agreed to spend up to $25 billion to address USA claims from owners, environmental regulators, states and dealers and offered to buyback polluting US vehicles.
