Kushner, the son-in-law and senior adviser of President Trump, talked with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in December, prior to Trump's taking office, about establishing a back channel for communications about Syria and other policy matters, sources told ABC News.

'There is another question about his security clearance and whether he was forthcoming about his contacts on that, ' Schiff said.

The Administration's defence of Kushner coming after it was reported Kushner participated in discussions with Russia's envoy over on setting up a secret back-channel communications link between the White House and the Kremlin.

"You've got the ambassador to Russian Federation reporting back to Moscow on an open channel", Graham said.

"Kushner, who some say has sealed himself off from the competing White House power centers, may now be in a position of needing allies".

Mr Trump's tweets came as the media reported that the White House was preparing to establish a "war room" to combat mounting questions about ties between Russian Federation and his presidential campaign.

That follows a recent report from The Washington Post alleging that Kushner wanted to develop a secure, private line with Russian Federation.

The Senate Intelligence Committee, which is investigating Russia's meddling in the 2016 United States presidential election, has requested information and documents from Mr Trump's campaign.

The Washington Post is reporting that the FBI is investigating meetings that Trump's son-in-law, Kushner, had in December 2016, with Russian officials. He also demanded that Kushner testify before the Oversight Committee.
