White House refuses to answer questions on Trump 'taping Comey's conversations'

President Donald Trump said on Saturday he will move quickly to nominate a new FBI director, after he sparked a political firestorm by firing the man investigating possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump presidential campaign.Trump told reporters he might even be able to make his decision on who should succeed James Comey to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation before he leaves on his first foreign trip late next week."Even that is possible", Trump said, speaking on Air Force One before departing for Lynchburg, Virginia, where he delivered a commencement address."I think the process is going to go quickly", he said, adding that the candidates under consideration were mostly well known. Trump's tweet came the morning after he asserted Comey had told him three times he wasn't under FBI investigation.

In the Trump era, it has become a cable TV hit and cultural touchstone. "I said, 'If it's possible would you let me know, am I under investigation?' He said, 'You are not under investigation, '" Trump recounted, repeating an assertion made when the White House announced Comey's firing Tuesday.

Trump also tweeted earlier that "it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with flawless accuracy!"

"From a constitutional perspective, Trump can make whatever demands of his principal officers he wishes, and can fire them at will", said Josh Blackman, a law professor at South Texas College of Law Houston.

The media often criticises inaccuracies and discrepancies. But Spicer and his team have kept up regular briefings.

The tweet likely references two different accounts of a dinner Trump and Comey shared in the White House in January.

Bob Casey, a Scranton Democrat, says the bill is a punch in the gut to middle-class families in Pennsylvania. Unknown at this point, 18 months before the election, is how the health care vote could complicate that.

"That exercise, conducted in full view of our republic's citizens, is clearly in line with the spirit of the First Amendment", Mason said.

"Doing away with briefings would reduce accountability, transparency, and the opportunity for Americans to see that, in the USA system, no political figure is above being questioned", Jeff Mason, WHCA president said in a statement.

"But as a matter of practice, I doubt either did it and that it's just another bluff from Trump", he continued. "We work very hard to get you the most accurate and up-to-date information every day".

Trump addressed questions over the timing in his interview with Pirro, arguing that there was "no right time" to fire Comey.

"I would note that NY is a one-party consent state, and President Trump has always abided by the law", said Sam Nunberg, a former campaign aide, noting that it is not required in NY for both parties on a call to be aware that it was being recorded. She also was deputy special counsel to the Senate special committee that investigated President Bill Clinton's Whitewater scandal. "They really don't. I'm not saying that in a bragging way".

Trump was widely known to record some phone conversations at his office in Trump Tower during his business career, sometimes remarking to aides after a call as to whether or not he had taped that one.
