Two girls were shot by flying bullets at an elementary school playground in Chicago on Friday, prompting outrage from the city's top cop about gun violence.

Police responded to a call of shots fired about 1:51 p.m.in the 9200 block of South Jefferey, and found two children shot, according to preliminary information from Chicago Police.

Both girls were taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. It's, it's-you know, it just, it angers me that these little children can not grow up in a neighborhood and not think that gunfire is the norm.

The 7-year-old girl was wounded in the thigh, and the 13-year-old girl was wounded in the hand, police say.

One of the victims is 7 years old.

"The individuals being shot at then ran back into the picnic area drawing that fire to the folks that were in there enjoying the picnic", Johnson said.
