2 naval personnel killed in SW Pakistan terrorist attack

The sailors were transporting iftar items during a routine run from Jiwani city when their vehicle was ambushed by four assailants on two motorbikes, a senior local administration official told DawnNews. One of the wounded succumbed to his injuries on the way, the official said.

The injured were shifted to Karachi for treatment, the spokesman said and added: "Such acts from extremist elements will not dent our resolve". "One of them expired later on", he said.

Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai and Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with the families of the victims.

"Our enemies are behind these attacks but our forces are here and we will eliminate these terrorists from the region", Bugti said.

No group has taken credit for the attack yet. Search operations are being conducted in the areas.

The attack had come days after Islamic State claimed responsibility of killing two Chinese nationals in Pakistan's south-western Baluchistan province last month.

Gwadar port and Baluchistan are the integral part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and both countries have agreed to bolster security for the people, including Chinese nationals, working on different projects under the Dollars 50 billion project.

China is also developing the warm water Gwadar port, a prominent feature of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) plan.

Earlier in May, unidentified gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on labourers working on a road in Gwadar's Pishgin area.
