Aegon Championship: Nick Kyrgios retires injured after first set against Donald Young

Asked what he would now do to wile away the time at the house he's renting in Wimbledon with his mother, and girlfriend, Kyrgios quipped: "Dog and Fox", - a reference to a local pub in the affluent suburb.

The world number 20 then made a decision to call time on the match and appeared in some distress as he left the court, having previously struggled with both hip and shoulder complaints already this year. "I'm sure it will".

Nick Kyrgios suffered a fresh injury blow ahead of Wimbledon as the Australian star was forced to retire from his Queen's Club first-round clash with Donald Young today.

"I got the injections a couple weeks ago, and then I was in rehab for a couple of weeks and it settled down, and then on that fall I just felt sharp pain", Kyrgios said.

Kyrgios said in the build-up to the match that he has had hip trouble for the last seven months but was now playing without pain.

Wawrinka ready for Murray rematch
Earlier, third-seeded Simona Halep and fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina advanced and will face each other in the quarterfinals. Murray beat the 21-year-old Khachanov 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and four minutes to record the 650th win of his career.

"I was pushing myself to just stay in the moment, stay in the present, return every ball that I can, make sure that I take the right decision, trying to serve as best I can and making sure that I keep that focus throughout the whole time", said No.6 seed Dimitrov, glad to be back to winning ways after the disappointment of his "wasted tournament" in Germany.

It has been a hard season for Kyrgios, who has been battling injury and also took a short break from tennis in April following the death of his grandfather. The 18-year-old, a qualifier at Queen's, beat the world No.47 in three sets, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-4. Grigor Dimitrov, the Bulgarian world number 11, cruised into the second round with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Ryan Harrison of the United States.

"I don't think I'm ever going to forget about it but I think I've moved on from it", said Shapovalov, the junior champion at Wimbledon previous year. "It wasn't in my head at all".

Shapovalov will face No.7-seeded Tomas Berdych, who defeated Steve Darcis 7-5, 6-3, next.

Andy Murray opens the defence of his title on Tuesday against fellow Briton Aljaz Bedene. The event has a strong field that has been weakened by the withdrawals of French Open champion Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro.
