Australia suspends air missions over Syria as US-Russian tensions rise

On Monday, Russia's Ministry of Defense accused the US of "a cynical violation" of Syria's sovereignty, saying that Russian aircraft had also been carrying out combat missions in the same region - and that the coalition didn't use the deconfliction channels.

The U.S. military statement said it acted in "collective self defense" of its partner forces and that the U.S. did not seek a fight with the Syrian government or its Russian supporters.

The top USA military officer said Monday that Washington and Moscow are in delicate discussions to tamp down tensions arising from the US shootdown of a Syrian fighter jet, which the Russians called a violation of a U.S.

The U.S. -led coalition could not stress enough that they are targeting ISIS and not Bashar al-Assad's Syrian regime, but will also "not hesitate" to defend its forces from anyone they deem a threat.

Russian Federation also warned that its air defense systems would begin tracking all US-led coalition aircraft in central Syria, prompting the Pentagon to move some of its planes. The Syrian pilot catapulted into an area controlled by Islamic State terrorists.

On Monday, the Russian military halted cooperation with its U.S. counterparts in the framework of the Memorandum on the Prevention of Incidents and Ensuring Air Safety in Syria.

The missile attack came amid recent confrontations in Syria between US -backed forces and Iranian-backed pro-government factions.

The Russian military has accused the USA -led coalition in Syria of providing safe corridors for the Islamic State group to leave the area around its stronghold of Raqqa.

President Trump's approval rating hits 50 percent, poll shows
The same poll found that only 50 percent of whites without a college degree approve of the job the president is doing. And, while Republicans are more dissatisfied than ever since Trump took office, Democrats are even more concerned.

The shooting down of the Syrian jet and the Russian response only proves to further entrench the United States and Russia into the continuation of a proxy war in Syria.

The American F/A-18E Super Hornet shot down the Syrian SU-22 around 7:00 pm as it "dropped bombs near SDF fighters" south of the town of Tabqa.

Earlier, Syrian forces attacked coalition fighters in Ja'Din, wounding a number of fighters and driving them from the town.

"What is this if not an act of aggression?"

"The coalition's mission is to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria".

Tom Shannon, the State Department No. 3, will meet Sergei Ryabkov, Russia's deputy foreign minister.

US -backed opposition fighters said Assad's forces have been attacking them in the northern province of Raqqa and warned that if such attacks continue, the fighters will take action. In April, the Kremlin temporarily suspended its involvement in the pact after a USA missile strike in Syria, the Washington Post reported.
