Australian, three other men tunnel out of Bali jail

Malaysian Tee Kok King used a 12-meter-long tunnel that officials suspect "took more than a week to build".

Shaun Edward Davidson, from Perth, was serving a 12-month sentence after being convicted in September a year ago of using fraudulent travel documents.

They were believed to have escaped while prisoners were cleaning the yard and preparing for a morning roll call, he said.

The tunnel is just 40cm in diameter and ran from behind the jail clinic, under the jail wall to the outside, ironically just near the guard tower.

"We will investigate if there's involvement from other prisoners or guards", Mr Nainggolan said.

The four were placed in Kerobokan prison's Block B and Sayed was said to be the last to be seen at around 6.30am.

His photograph, along with his three fellow escapees have been circulated around Bali as police attempt to find the men.

Video posted on social media showed people screaming as bystanders performed chest compressions on one of the injured. The attacker struck as the area was busy with worshippers who had been attending Ramadan night prayers at the mosque.

The four men were serving jail terms for a mix of drug and fraud offences.

Bali Provincial Police Deputy Director for Special Crime, Rudi Setyawan said it was likely that the streets where they emerged were quiet but he hopes someone may have spotted something.

Indonesian authorities arrested Davidson after finding him with a passport that had been reported missing in 2013 by its owner, Michael John Bayman.

In an interview with Fairfax Media between the bars of a holding cell at Denpasar District Court last September, Davidson said the conditions in Kerobokan were bearable if one had money and support from the outside.

Bali prisoners broke out in Great Escape style.

Just last week, 76 inmates escaped Jambi jail in Sumatra after flooding caused the prison's walls to collapse.

Davidson, 33, who fled drug charges in Perth, spent a year in Bali before he was jailed for using fraudulent travel documents.
