China Sends Their First X-Ray Telescope to Find Black Holes

The goal of this novel project is to study the evolution of black holes.

On Thursday, China released their first X-ray space telescope.

The 2.76-ton satellite was carried on the back of a Long March-4B rocket launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Desert.

It is the nation's first space-based X-ray observatory and is created to work for at least four years in a low-Earth orbit, according to the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence, which oversees China's space programmes. Aside from the aforementioned study of black holes, astronomers are hoping the satellite gathers sufficient data on the interiors and magnetic fields of pulsars, while leveraging pulsars as a navigation tool for spacecraft.

On Friday, June 16, the country's State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence revealed that China will also launch four more space probes before 2021 in the nation's efforts to develop space science.

Specifically, Insight will seek out new black hole activity by searching the Milky Way for celestial bodies that emit X-rays.

Trump again acknowledges he's under investigation
Rosenstein has been overseeing the Russian Federation probe since shortly after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself. Comey has told lawmakers to give the notes that he took after each of his nine meetings or phone calls with Trumps to Mueller.

After five months of in-orbit tests and calibrations, the telescope will be officially put into use to conduct broadband x-ray space observations. "These studies are expected to bring new breakthroughs in physics", said Zhang Shuangnan, the HXMT lead scientist.

The chief designer Chen Young added that no matter how bright the objects are, this new telescope would not get blinded.

According to Zhang Shuangnan, HXMT lead scientist, the satellite's developers found that a set of HXMT high-energy detectors, originally created to shield background noises caused by unwanted particles, could be adjusted to observe gamma-ray bursts.

Moving forward, Elon Musk's SpaceX is also planning to launch super-fast internet satellites into space in 2019. Therefore, Insight encompasses all other technologies throughout the world thanks to its larger detection area, wider view, and broader energy range. It was a key development toward China's goal of having its own crewed space station by 2022.

The China-Italy Electromagnetic Monitoring Experiment Satellite will be launched this August to study phenomena related to earthquakes from space.
