Christy Clark to stay on as BC premier

While the agreement between the New Democrats and the Greens struck Monday significantly raised the likelihood of losing power, Clark confronted this prospect by telling the public that she would test the confidence of the legislature, while pleading for co-operation across party lines.

Christy Clark says she is ready to accept the fate of a confidence vote in the legislature.

Notley said she doesn't believe it makes much difference who is running B.C., because the federal government has already approved the project, so it can not be vetoed. Our agreement to support a B.C. NDP government is an important aspect of collaboration in this new political era, but cross-partisan work is not limited to it.

The agreement echoes the NDP platform, pledging to meet government guidelines for for public and private care homes.

"The question will be, does she do the elegant thing, which would be to resign and let John Horgan and the NDP form the government ... or does she attempt to go it alone".

"I can tell you, I will work as hard as I have, and harder, for the best interests of the people of my riding and of rural British Columbia".

He said the anti-pipeline resolution affects not only the oil and gas sector, but the overall investment climate.

At that point, the opposition NDP and Greens will be able to present a non-confidence motion in Clark and her BC Liberals.

"I don't think ... the NDP-Green majority is sufficiently great to cause her to concede", Telford said. The expectation is that the B.C. Liberals will recall the legislature in the middle of June and see whether they can pass a throne speech and keep the confidence of the house.

An appeal to reason: Trump travel ban takes another hit
Reinstating the ban would require the votes of five of the nine justice, with Justice Anthony Kennedy as the likely swing vote. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) responded to Session's statement with a Tweet saying: "See you in court!"

However, Clark said she didn't want to speculate as to whether Lt. -Gov.

Adam Olsen, a Green member who was elected in Saanich North and the Islands, said his party made compromises in its negotiations with the NDP but the agreement addresses democratic-reform issues critical to the party's agenda.

In a statement, Clark said her party has a responsibility to carefully consider its next steps and that she would have more to say Tuesday after consulting her caucus colleagues.

"We will have to be doing a lot of research and feeding our MLAs good ideas and good research, and a good understanding of our rural resource economy, and we're prepared to do that", he said.

That test will come as early as next month, she said.

"We are optimistic that the value of our communities, our people and the work that we do will be understood and appreciated by our government and that informed and collaborative conversations will take place", she said.

In an election that was too close to call on May 9, the BC Liberals emerged with 43 seats, the BC NDP with 41 and the BC Greens with three after absentee ballots were counted and a recount was completed in Courtenay-Comox.

On the other side of the political house, longtime West Vancouver MLA Ralph Sultan said Clark's decision to have events unfold formally in the legislature is the right one. "We're anxious to get going, we're anxious to start that transition".

When The Journal asks if the increased support for the Green Party province-wide indicates voters tiring of the two established parties, Tegart says it's hard to say.
