Protesters gather in front of Mitch McConnell's office for 'die

Protesters angry over cuts to Medicaid in the Senate Republicans' health care bill filled a hallway outside of Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's office Thursday. In a statement, they said about 60 protesters gathered for a "die-in" to fight back on the health care bill, which will drastically cut back federal support of Medicaid.

Capitol police were seen physically removing demonstrators, many of whom were in wheelchairs and holding medical equipment, as they chanted their disapproval of the draft legislation.

Alison Barkoff, the director of advocacy for the Center for Public Representation and an organizer of the protest, echoed the concerns of numerous bill's critics, saying that it represents little more than "tax cuts for the wealthy on the backs of people with disabilities". Capitol police made 43 arrests while some officers were forced to drag protesters out of the building.

"Our lives and liberty shouldn't be stolen to give a tax break to the wealthy". One protestor being carried out by police was reportedly dropped.

"The Senate proposal cuts off Medicaid expansion more gradually than the House bill, but would enact deeper long-term cuts to the health-care program for low-income Americans", reported the Washington Post late Wednesday.

The long-term services under Medicaid that people with disabilities depend on are generally not available through private insurance.

Video footage showed the disability advocates, some of whom were wheelchair bound, being forcibly removed from outside McConnell's office.

One of the protesters who was arrested, Mike Oxford, told CNN that the police acted professionally and used accessible paddy wagons with wheelchair lifts to transport the protesters with mobility disabilities.
