Short on votes, Senate Republicans delay vote on GOP health bill

Facing a potentially disastrous defeat by members of his own party, US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has chose to delay a vote on healthcare legislation in order to get more support from Republican senators.

Both Senators Susan Collins of ME and Dean Heller of Nevada have already come out publicly against the latest draft of the AHCA. "I am pleased with the decision to delay the vote - now is the time to take a step back and put the full legislative process to work".

McConnell and Senate GOP leaders haven't discussed possible changes with members concerned about some of the bill's provisions, two senators said.

"I have studied the draft legislation and Congressional Budget Office analysis to understand its impact on West Virginians", Capito said in a statement.

"My suspicion is that any negotiation with the Democrats would include none of the reforms that we would like to make, both on the market side and the Medicaid side", McConnell told reporters yesterday.

Lee was among four conservatives who announced last week that they were against the current version of the legislation. McConnell had previously been adamant that he wanted to get a vote in before everyone left town to frolic on the beach, eat hot dogs, and misunderstand the meaning of "Born in the United States of America", but it just wasn't in the cards.

Baker has argued that the Senate GOP health care bill could have a cumulative negative impact of more than $8.2 billion on MA by 2025 and kick 264,000 state residents off their health coverage.

Graham said if senators are considering voting no because of how it will affect their states, then stick to it and vote no.

But the Senate was convening later than usual Tuesday with no sign that debate on the health care measure would begin as leaders had hoped, underscoring McConnell's need to focus on closed-door deal-making to rescue the bill. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Sen. All it clearly indicates is that McConnell and the Republican leadership weren't confident they'd have the votes by the end of this week. Under Obamacare, those who do not purchase healthcare are levied a tax and many Americans have to pay high deductibles.

"I would not bet against Mitch McConnell", Ryan said, adding that every Republican senator campaigned on repealing and replacing Obama's law.

Paul, who met with President Donald Trump on Tuesday before the vote was postponed, said in a tweet that the bill is "not real repeal" and "needs major improvement". "If this bill isn't good for Kansas, it isn't good for me", he said.

One conservative senator that Trump reached out to Monday was GOP Sen.

The bill which aims to dismantle Obama-era health regulations gives an estimated $700 billion tax cut to wealthy Americans and health companies while putting maternity care, mental health care, rehabilitation care and nursing home coverage at risk - a tough pill to swallow for Republicans in states that received the Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act.

But the office said that overall, the Senate legislation would increase consumers' out of pocket costs.
