Smoke fills Yampa Valley from Utah wildfire

A major wildfire in southern Utah, United States, has forced more than 1,500 people from their homes and cabins. The fire burned about 1,600 acres. Due to the incident in California, Highway 14 was forced to close down by the police authorities. Mike Noel said Tuesday he wants to use the fire near the ski town of Bri.

Firefighters battled high winds as they fought a fire that has grown to 72 square miles (184 square kilometers) and burned 13 homes - larger than any other fire in the country now, state emergency managers said.

More than 900 personnel are battling the fire, which started June 7.

Officials say crews have stopped the fire from advancing and on Wednesday were trying to put out areas still burning or smoldering within the fire's perimeter. Winds made conditions more unsafe for some 500 firefighters assigned to the inferno, and the blaze was just 1 percent contained on Tuesday night.

Near San Luis Obispo, the so-called Hill Fire destroyed the home of Big Bang Theory actor Johnny Galecki.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the collision Sunday caused a tree to catch on fire, beginning a blaze that spread toward the Disney Ranch area.

"People are not being careful enough", he said, noting that several other human-caused fires had broken out over the weekend.

The fire, dubbed the Manzanita Fire, started about 3:10 p.m. on Lambs Canyon near Dump Road following a single auto crash, the Riverside County Fire Department said in a news release.

Evacuation warnings remain in effect for a few small communities.

Many residents have painful memories of a 2013 wildfire that killed 19 members of an elite Prescott-based firefighting crew nearly four years to the date, and some struggled to leave their homes behind.

Officials ordered the evacuation of 1,400 residents in the central Arizona town of Mayer Tuesday afternoon as a large wildfire continued to advance on the area.

The fire is the largest in the nation at 78 square miles (201 square kilometers). Homes there have been evacuated since June 17 since authorities said the fire was started by someone using a torch tool to burn weeds on private land.

CAL FIRE said on June 22 that firefighters have responded to 1,878 wildfires, burning over 19,000 acres, since January 1, representing a threefold increase compared with the same time a year ago.

The fire has reached into remote areas of Dixie National Forest, where heavy fuel is continuing to feed it. Briggs said when it emerges from there, firefighters hope to get a better handle on it as it moves into lighter sagebrush.
