Theresa May 'reassures' Irish PM on DUP deal

The Prime Minister said she expected details of her arrangement with the party to be finally resolved tomorrow or Wednesday.

British Prime Minister Theresa May will face an immediate leadership challenge from eurosceptic lawmakers in her party if she seeks to water down her plans for Brexit, the Sunday Telegraph reported, citing senior Conservative sources.

Mr Coveney, who is meeting the EU's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier in Luxembourg on Tuesday, said it was vital that the Executive be restored not only for politics in Northern Ireland but to ensure the North has a voice at the Brexit negotiations.

The transport secretary said the talks were "going well", adding that the DUP did not want another election or Jeremy Corbyn in Downing Street.

As he travelled to Belfast to participate in negotiations for the first time, Simon Coveney pledged to "spare no effort" in the process to salvage the crisis-hit institutions at Stormont.

Mr Kearney said his party's equality and rights agenda "is not negotiable".

"We want to get back to an executive that has all the parties around the table to collectively take decisions".

If Handel wins, Swint said it will likely be because she was able to turn out her Republican base, especially in Fulton County. At least one local Republican official interpreted last week's shooting as a potential positive for Handel's candidacy.

On the advancement of talks with the DUP, South Staffordshire MP Mr Williamson said: "Good progress is being made in discussing the substantive issues surrounding any potential agreement".

"We spoke about the very important need for both governments to be impartial actors when it comes to Northern Ireland and that we are co-guarantors of the Good Friday Agreement and that any agreement that may exist between the Conservatives and the DUP should not in any way impact on the Good Friday Agreement", he said.

"There have been positive engagements today between ourselves and Sinn Féin", he said.

"I think we will continue to work away on that to try to deliver devolution, to get devolution back up and running again for the people of Northern Ireland so we can deliver for them on the issues of health, education, jobs and the economy".

"They can't have it both way, it has to be dealt with sensibly". "We are talking about a confidence and supply agreement with them", she said.

"We're having good constructive discussions and I'm confident that we'll reach a sensible agreement", Grayling told BBC radio.

Mr Williamson also insisted his party was fully prepared for the start of the Brexit negotiations with the European Union that are scheduled for Monday.
