Triumphant Pakistan have core to target further glory

In a stunning manner, Pakistan thrashed India by 180 runs to lift the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy at London's Kennington Oval on Sunday.

Pakistan, made to bat first for the first time in the tournament, racked up a final-record innings of 338/4, founded on a 128-run opening stand between Fakhar Zaman, who earned his maiden one-day worldwide century with 114, and Azhar Ali, whom Fakhar ran out on 59. Today was slightly different in that their bowlers simply blew the Indian top order away, killing any real hope India had of chasing Pakistan down. The south Asian nation claimed their third ICC tournament, having earlier won the 50-over World Cup in 1992 and the World Twenty20 in 2009. Opener Fakhar Zaman was the top scorer with a fine 114 off 106 balls. Four players from champions Pakistan made it to the team and Sarfraz Ahmed was named the captain. Team India lost the finals but the boys weren't sore, they were proud of their performance and thus accepted the defeat.

"Pakistan had a dream run in the tournament, but doubts remained over its ability to tackle the pressures of an India game, let alone that of a final".

This was the first Champions Trophy title for Pakistan.

The night ended on a sombre mood for Indian sports fans with majority of the people disheartened after the cricket team's loss but they still had something to cheer for in the hockey team's victory.

Greig Laidlaw supports Gatland's addition of six new Lions
Well, we saw how dominant the Lions were in the constant rain and slippery conditions in Rotorua against the New Zealand Maori. England coach Eddie Jones wasn't impressed, and Lions great Ian McGeechan said, "It's hard to justify geography".

"What we want to do is differentiate our global events from each other so that they can be standalone and create maximum interest every time the event happens", Richardson said.

'Well, we knew we was going to be playing at Cardiff on a used wicket... That it happened in an India-Pakistan game, and with all the modern-day context, would turn heads across the world but Virat Kohli's India were caught napping really.

A key to Pakistan's success at the ICC Champions Trophy, fast bowler Hasan Ali picked up 13 wickets during the course of the tournament which saw him being named the Player of the Tournament as well as get the Golden Ball for being the highest wicket-taker. "They can upset anyone on their day", Kohli said after the match. "When a player like that gets going - on the day probably 80 per cent of his shots were high risk, but they came off - it becomes very hard to stop him". That skill is one that will make him a truly potent force as long as he stays fit. They will face a lot of questions though - did the Captain and coach issue rattle the dressing room communication?

"The final was the first time that I have experienced a match between the two great rivals live, and the atmosphere at the ground was just electric".
