UK official looking for 'positive' Brexit talks

German Chancellor Angela Merkel says she hopes for a "good agreement" after Brexit talks in which 27 European Union countries will listen carefully to what Britain wants but also defend their own interests.

Britain's political instability has caused concerns in European capitals hoping to get the negotiations over with quickly and cleanly, as has May's oft-repeated threat to walk away from the talks without a deal if necessary.

"Sitting down for a first formal negotiation round is something in and of itself", an European Union source told AFP. "But the 27 of us will formulate our interests very clearly and hopefully, together", Merkel said.

Britain already appears to have capitulated to the EU's insistence that talks first focus on three key divorce issues, before moving onto the future EU-UK relationship and a possible trade deal. He said he views the talks with "informed optimism".

Davis's agreement to Monday's agenda led some European Union officials to believe May's government may at last be coming around to Brussels' view of how negotiations should be run.

Davis also said the United Kingdom plans to set out its own negotiating aims for Brexit next Monday. Such firms sold 7.3 billion euros ($8.2 billion) worth of goods to customers in Britain a year ago, their fourth-biggest market.

United Kingdom negotiator David Davis and the EU's Barnier have one key issue over the first weeks of talks: building trust after months of haggling over leaks and figures over the final bill that Britain would have to pay for leaving.

Anxious by immigration and loss of sovereignty, Britons voted previous year to end their country's four-decade membership in the 28-country bloc - the first nation ever to do so.

Philadelphia big men Joel Embiid and Dario Saric posted a selfie from the team's locker room with Fultz's name in the background. The Cavs did not know when they drafted Wiggins that LeBron James would return, presenting Cleveland with a win-now scenario.

Davis, a prominent "Leave" campaigner in the referendum, said he was approaching the talks in a "constructive way", knowing they will be "difficult at points".

European People's Party caucus leader Manfred Weber told German radio station Bayern 2 Monday: "Our big problem is that we have no picture, no idea at all what the British want".

He added: "It's not as if Europe is leaving Britain; Britain wants to leave the EU".

"The UK is going to leave the European Union, single market and the customs union, not the other way around". "It is by lifting uncertainties around these issues that we will lay the foundation and create the climate of trust which will enable us to build a new partnership".

A year after Britons shocked the continent by voting on June 23 to cut loose from their main export market, new debate within Prime Minister Theresa May's cabinet on precisely what kind of trading relationship to pursue has perplexed European Union leaders, who warn time is tight to agree terms before Britain leaves in 2019.

The negotiations kick off in Brussels on Monday with Britain under pressure for stalling the talks and entering the negotiations without a working parliamentary majority fully in place.

"I look forward to beginning work on that new future". Mr Barnier quoted one of the EU's founding fathers, Jean Monnet, saying in French: "Ce qui est important, ce n'est, ni d'être optimiste, ni pessimiste, mais d'être détermine".
