Celtic fans get advice for match against Linfield

The 32-year-old was substituted during the 9-0 friendly win over the League of Ireland side in Dublin leading to concerns he might be struggling for Friday's Champions League qualifier.

Celtic have said that they are "extremely surprised" by the Northern Irish Police's Twitter statement, after the latter distanced themselves from a decision over tickets for the match against Linfield.

In a tweet, police said that "contrary to some reports" the decision to have no away fans in the stadium was "a decision taken exclusively by the football club and was not made by PSNI".

On June 23, the Evening Times reported that, after discussions with the PSNI, Celtic decided the best course of action was to urge supporters not to travel to the game.

Celtic were due to face Linfield on Thursday for the second round Champions League qualification clash but the game had been announced as a high-risk event and because of political circumstances, it has been moved to this Friday.

During a press conference after his arrival, Mr Rodgers, from Carnlough in Co Antrim, spoke of his disappointment at the lack of "assurances" for the safety of Celtic supporters, which he said was "sad" in "the new Northern Ireland".

He kept the company's price target - the amount a stock is projected to be worth after a 12-month period - steady at $22. The company had revenue of $149.60 million during the quarter, compared to the consensus estimate of $158.32 million.

He also said he'd "be amazed" if there were no Celtic fans inside the ground.

Former Mayor of Belfast, the DUP councillor and Linfield fan Brian Kingston, told the BBC: "I think we're maturing as a society and I think we can handle those rivalries".

Sinn Fein councillor Matt Garrett, who tabled the proposal for the council grant for the fan zone, said the money was supporting the "external part of the fan zone" and "not any of the commercial elements of the Devenish".

After a month of hype the talking is over and the final countdown is on to Linfield's match against Celtic in the preliminary stages of the Champions League.

Both clubs have made public requests that Celtic fans do not purchase tickets for the game.
