Donald Trump's approval hits record low

Over half of the Board Donald trump has the lowest approval rating among all us presidents for the last 70 years.

The president who came closest to that mark was Gerald Ford, who saw a 39 percent approval rating six months into his term.

Despite Mr Trump's claims on the campaign trail to "make America great" on the world stage, the survey found 48 per cent believed the U.S. has actually been weakened.

But then, these basement-level numbers are nothing new for Trump.

Twitter users responded with derision to the president's claim that 36 per cent was "almost 40 per cent", as Mr Trump had tweeted.

The Post-ABC poll found some parallels between Americans who "strongly" approve or disapprove of Trump, groups that together account for almost three in four adults.

After six months of coming into the #White House, Trump is now holding a prominent record. "The President had Secret Service protection at that point, and that raised a question with me", he told ABC News.

Secondly, to say it is "not bad at this time" is just plain false.

And on a broader global scale, two-thirds of respondents don't trust Trump to competently negotiate with world leaders.

The US intelligence community alleged that Russia meddled in the US presidential race past year and connections existed between the Russian government and the Trump campaign, which the Kremlin has denied.

The Post-ABC poll finds 60 per cent of Americans think Russian Federation tried to influence the election outcome, up slightly from 56 per cent in April.

Republicans' legislative struggles may also be weighing on Trump's popularity.

Seventeen percent said they prefer neither. But nearly half of all Republicans call the meeting appropriate.

There is one notable bright spot for Trump. While 52 per cent think he is trying to interfere with investigations into Russia's possible election interference, that is down slightly from 56 per cent in June. That's not to say Americans are feeling positive about the Democratic Party. Trump has become the most unpopular US President in last 70 years of the US history.

Comparatively, approval ratings remained low among non-white Protestants, college educated white women, Hispanics, and blacks.

The ABC-Post poll finds about 60 percent of Americans said they believe Russian Federation tried to meddle in the 2016 United States presidential election, while about 44 percent think Trump benefited from those attempts. A mere 38 percent of Americans say Trump has made significant progress toward advancing his agenda, while 55 percent disagree.

The public has grown more skeptical that Trump will deliver on some of his most ambitious campaign promises.

On health care, 24 percent favor the Republican plan over Obamacare.

Consider the partisan breakdown: 82 percent of self-identified Republicans approve of how Trump is doing, including 62 percent who approve strongly.

Other key findings reveal that 61 percent of respondents say America is on the wrong path - up 12 points since December.

The Post-ABC poll was conducted July 10-13 among a random national sample of 1,001 adults reached on cellular and landline phones. Specific to county type: 342 adults were surveyed in "flip" counties with a 5.3 margin or error, while just 258 adults were polled in "surge" counties with a 6.1 percentage margin of error.
