IIFA Awards 2017: Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt win top awards

Best Actor Female: Alia Bhatt for Udta Punjab.

Both Shahid and Alia were emotional about winning the award for a film which made its way to the big screen after fighting the censor board, and let mainstream performers like them take up something risky. "Shahid captioned the picture as, "#Udtapunjab double whammy. "Congratulations alia bhatt", Shahid wrote on Twitter.

Music director AR Rahman was given a special award for completing 25 years in the music industry.

Veterans Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher won best supporting actors, for "Neerja" and the Dhoni biopic respectively.

The award for Best Music Direction went to Pritam while Varun Dhawan won the award for Best Actor In Comic Role.

In the Best Lyrics category, the contenders were Amitabh Bhattacharya for "Channa mereya" from "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, ' Gulzar for "Aave re Hitchki" from "Mirzya" and Tanveer Ghazi for 'Tu chal" from Pink.

The best playback singer award was grabbed by Amit Mishra for Bulleya from "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil".

The 2017 IIFA Awards, officially known as the 18th International Indian Film Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the International Indian Film Academy honoring the best Hindi films of 2016, occurred in East Rutherford, New Jersey on 14-15 July 2017.

Except this Bollywood on-screen character Saif Ali Khan and film maker executive Karan Johar hosted the event. Katrina Kaif and Varun Dhawan shared their excitement as well.
