J&K Police Arrests PDP Leader's Driver In Amarnath Terrorist Attack Case

The Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday arrested People's Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Aijaz Ahmad Mir's driver in connection with the recent Amarnath Yatra terror attack. The driver, identified as Tauseef Ahmad, was allegedly involved in attack on Amarnath Yatra pilgrims.

Touseef, a Chokura Pulwama resident attached to the Jammu and Kashmir police's security wing, has been Mir's driver for over a year now.

Claiming a major breakthrough in cracking the terror attack on a Yatra bus, the SIT has arrested a policeman and is also questioning a ruling PDP legislator in connection with the case. Two more persons have been arrested along with Tauseef. While nothing conclusive has emerged about Touseef until now, this is not the first instance of a security personnel's name cropping up in a militancy-related case. "He has been detained in a terrorism related case".

Superintendent of police Shopian, Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar, confirming the reports said that Touseef Ahmad was picked in an ongoing probe in "militancy case" and asserted that he was in fact "cooperating with the team of investigators". However, only Ahmad was formally placed under arrest on Friday. The SIT, headed by Swayam Paraksh Pani, Deputy Inspector General of Police South Kashmir, has so far questioned over 50 people and detained some of them.

Seven pilgrims were killed and 21 injured in the attack on the pilgrims who were travelling in a bus near Batengoo in Anantnag on Monday. Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba was behind the attack, said the IGP.
