Jagex goes mobile as RuneScape comes to smartphone and tablets

Old School RuneScape will land on mobile this winter, and RuneScape will arrive shortly after, in 2018. Best of all, the mobile iterations of RuneScape will support cross-platform play, so you'll be able to take your battle-worn protagonist from the PC games with you seamlessly on the go.

This won't be a separate mobile version, either. Cross-platform play will be possible between mobile and desktop players as well, so whether you're out and about with your phone or sitting at home on your computer, you'll be playing in the same world with the same characters.

RuneScape is one of the oldest MMORPGs still in active development, and developer Jagex isn't just keeping the lights on.

According to RuneScape developer and publisher Jagex, both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape will be ported over to mobile devices.

Game of Thrones fans angry after Foxtel service goes down
Although Arya was clearly planning on killing the soldiers in the small Lannister camp, she ultimately chose to spare their lives. The "Shape of You " singer made his " Game of Thrones " debut as an unnamed soldier in the Season 7 premiere on Sunday.

Ever since its launch on browsers, the game has witnessed multiple revision and upgrades so much so that it is entirely different from the first version. It's astounding that the free-to-play title with an optional subscription has outlasted the competition.

It's since been split into two versions, one remaining true to the classic, and the other an updated version with modern trimmings. Alternatively players who prefer a mobile experience can dedicate their time on the mobile app too.

RuneScape's 16-year existence is a sign of why games-as-a-service are so desirable by companies right now. Having said that, players with high-level characters might find it hard to take part in some of the game or combat-related activities (such as raiding) on a mobile device. This is mostly standard stuff that's already covered in the announcement, however the FAQ does say that the mobile version of RuneScape will have a new user interface.
