Nasa admits it can't afford to land humans on mars

Nasa admits it can't afford to land humans on mars

The confession came during Wednesday's propulsion meeting of the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Mars has always been touted as humanity's next step, but any plans may be scuppered after a senior official revealed tightened purse strings of the space agency may put a halt to the ambitious plans. Then, in March, that mandate became a bill which granted NASA $19.5 billion to fund humanity's first voyage to the Red Planet.

The National Research Council has studied the budget scenario in depth at the time and concluded in its 2014 Pathways to Exploration report that "With current flat or even inflation-adjusted budget projections for human spaceflight, there are no viable pathways to Mars".

He added there's just about two percent increase in the budget levels and they now lack surface systems for Mars as landing on the Martian soil is a huge challenge.

What Music Does Trump Like? Not Daft Punk, Apparently
At the end of the performance, Mr Trump clapped and whistled while his French counterpart broke into a broad smile. Well, now we can add electronic music to the seemingly endless list of things that Trump has no knowledge of.

And he said the budget was to blame, since it didn't allow for descent and landing. Many scientist an analysts say that this might be the tip of an ice berg that could mean that NASA may never launch another journey mars in the near future.

While it may still be able to fly astronauts to Mars, entry and landing is an entirely different matter.

In the meantime, Elon Musk's company SpaceX has pushed its deadline for its unmanned mission to Mars to 2020, having abandoned the initial plan to send a probe as soon as 2018. "With a Mars mission looking further and further away, Gerstenmaier said refocusing on the moon could be the most viable option in the immediate future, since the technology does exist for an 'extensive" moon program, which could pave the way for a Mars trip.

Mr Gerstenmaier added: "If we find out there's water on the Moon, and we want to do more extensive operations on the Moon to go explore that, we have the ability with Deep Space Gateway to support an extensive Moon surface program". "If we want to stay focused more toward Mars we can keep that".
