Panthers relieve GM Gettleman of duties

Gettleman was a part of the organization since 2013, helping the Panthers find their way into the playoffs each of his first three seasons. The Panthers have fired general manager Dave Gettleman less than two weeks before the opening of training camp.

A wild calendar year for the Carolina Panthers became even more wild on Monday when the team announced the unexpected and wildly surprising termination of general manager Dave Gettleman.

Panthers owner Jerry Richardson said the decision was not easy and took much thought.

Sportscaster and Baseball Hall of Fame's Bob Wolff Dies at 96
Wolff was born in New York City on November 29, 1920, and began his broadcasting career in 1939 as a student at Duke University. However, his most famous moment was when he called New York Yankees pitcher Don Larsen's ideal game in the 1956 World Series.

During an appearance on the Know Them from Adam podcast last week, Williams said the Panthers were one of four teams he wouldn't play for next season, along with the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys. At the time of his release, Williams told WBTV Charlotte that he was OK with the team's decision because of the way he and his family were treated when Williams' mother died of breast cancer.

The Bills hired Brandon Beane as their new general manager this past May. But Carolina slipped to 6-10 previous year after a tumultuous offseason that saw Gettleman rescind cornerback Josh Norman's franchise tag after negotiations turned sour. Norman had his franchise tag rescinded, which led to the cornerback signing with the Redskins.

Josh Norman and Steve Smith, who also left Carolina with a bad taste in their mouths, tweeted their approval as well, Norman via emojis and Smith with a taunting photo.
