Suspicious vehicle cleared near Capitol Hill

All roads except Independence Avenue between Second and Third streets reopened shortly before 3:30 p.m.

Police have not identified the driver.

Capitol Hill police confirmed there were "shots fired" as cops tried to stop the vehicle and arrest the suspect.

A auto struck a barrier and a U.S Capitol Police cruiser near the Library of Congress this morning, sending a police officer and the driver to a hospital with minor injuries.

US Capitol Police said: "The US Capitol Police are continuing to investigate a suspicious vehicle located at Second Street and Independence Avenue SE".

Trump administration plans week to celebrate American-made goods
Trump pointed to the nature of the economy and blamed then-President Barack Obama's policies for forcing his hand. He then signed an executive order aimed at better supporting American companies and protecting US workers.

Police used explosives to open the vehicle's trunk and, after a long investigation that disrupted traffic, determined that there was nothing suspicious inside.

Police have yet to release information on the driver - but they are also believed to have been injured, reports the Washington Examiner.

Officers are understood to have used an explosion to gain access to the trunk of the auto.

One person was shot and another was stabbed in incidents in Northeast and Southeast Washington.

Police have said the incident is not terror related.
