The next Amazon Echo could rival Apple's HomePod for sound quality

The next Amazon Echo could rival Apple's HomePod for sound quality

Almost 24% of consumers own a voice-controlled device, while another 20% plan to purchase one in the next year, according to digital marketing firm Walker Sands. At last, it looks like rounded edges would replace the flat ends of the current model. And yes, it should sound better, too. It will pack in several tweeters to better rival the upcoming Apple HomePod which touts sound quality as its main feature.

Insiders familiar with the matter claim that Amazon is working on improving all areas of the Echo speaker, even those where it already reigns supreme. All of the older Echo models got a price cut, but the original's was by far the deepest, at 50-percent, which serves the dual goal of getting Alexa into a lot more homes and, perhaps, clearing out some of those warehouse shelves to make room for something new. Amazon might be able to make improvements to the software and acoustic modeling - that's how Google's speaker manages to pick up your commands with far fewer mics.

Additionally, you can use Alexa to search for videos by genera, title, and actor/actress.

Amazon is reportedly working on a new Echo device that will be more like the Apple HomePod, reports Engadget. At this point, it's clear that you can design a solid speaker that doesn't take up a significant amount of room.

Amazon's Prime Day which is similar to the Black Friday Sale and Cyber Monday is being held this year for the third time in line with the company's anniversary celebration.

On a global scale, the Echo Dot was the most popular item sold, more than 3.5 million toys were purchased - 309,000 of which were made in the United Kingdom - and more new members joined the Prime service on July 11 than on any single day in Amazon's history.

The $349 HomePod is set to arrive in December.
