Trump Defends Donald Jr: 'Most Politicians Would Have Gone' to the Meeting

The Secret Service is pushing back on President Donald Trump's attorney's remarks Sunday that there was nothing questionable going on at a meeting last summer between Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., a Russian lawyer and top members of Trump's campaign.

It said Veselnitskaya was given a special non-immigrant work visa around the time she met President Donald Trump's eldest son Donald Trump Jr.in NY last summer, reports the Hill.

Christie, who ran against President Trump as a Republican candidate for president, and led Mr. Trump's White House transition team following his election, added that information on the Trump campaign's alleged connections to the Russian government "comes out a little bit at a time and a little bit at a time". "That's really important. Number two, they learned that the Trump team would not report it ... they would be watching for increased counterintelligence activity after the meeting, if the Trump team reported it to the Federal Bureau of Investigation". The younger Trump released emails earlier this week showing he sought damaging information about Hillary Clinton's campaign even though he was told it would come from the Russian government.

The payment came nearly two weeks before Trump Jr. revealed that he met with a Russian lawyer in order to discuss damaging information on Hillary Clinton.

Asked whether the campaign is allowed to pay for Trump, Jr.'s legal fees if that turns out to be the case, former FEC general counsel Lawrence Noble, a CNN contributor, said: "They can pay for his legal expenses if it arises out of the campaign". Sixty percent said Russian Federation tried to influence the campaign, and among those who say so, 67 percent said Trump aides helped.

President Donald Trump also suggested in a tweet that his son took the meeting to obtain information about Clinton.

Christie Backs Travel Ban, Says Airports Must Enforce Trump Order

Some critics of the president have likened the meeting to proof that the campaign was at least open to colluding with the Russians.

"My son is a high-quality person and I applaud his transparency", CNN quoted a statement from the President as saying by White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

The President has maintained having no knowledge of the meeting.

It was also recently revealed that a Clinton-backed firm allegedly commissioned an unverified intelligence dossier with allegations about Trump.

"If it is what you say I love it", Trump Jr. wrote.

Rinat Akhmetshin confirmed his participation to reporters. "It's called opposition research", Trump said, according to Huff Post.
