Watch Stan Lee's emotional speech at the Disney Legends Awards

Carrie Fisher and Stan Lee are officially legends.

The late "Star Wars" actress - who passed away in December 2016 after suffering from cardiac arrest aged 60 - was awarded the highest honor The Walt Disney Company can bestow on an individual during the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California on Friday (14.07.17).

She became unresponsive and died in hospital four days later on 27 December. We all miss her talent, her wit, and her friendship.

Iger also paid tribute to the late Carrie Fisher by saying that she was an "iconic part of the Star Wars franchise". "She secretly always wanted to be a Disney princess, so being a Disney princess and a Disney Legend would be her dream", Lourd wrote. The waiter responded that Disney is "the best place to let me be me".

"I know if Carrie was here this morning, she would have flipped me the bird twice already". "I loved that book so", he said. "We could rely on each other, and there was a deep respect".

Star Wars creator George Lucas had his turn in 2015.

Meanwhile, Stan Lee's appearance onstage to collect his Legends Award was his first since the recent death of his wife, Joan. They had been married almost 70 years.

A big part of every D23 convention is the Disney Legends Awards, where the company honors its own, celebrating artists and executives who have made major contributions to the Walt Disney Company. Iger saluted Kirby as "an industry icon who redefined comics". "I want to thank, my family, my friends and of course my fathers fans, who stood by him and behind him for over several decades".

"She would be making me laugh and be off camera extending her middle finger - one of her favourite gestures". He was more than a man, he was an inspiration. "To think that today I'm standing here in the home that Disney is so thrilling".

"We're incredibly proud to call her a Disney Legend". Among the awardees this year was Carrie herself, whose daughter Billie Lourd sent a letter for Disney CEO and Chairman Bob Iger to read out at the ceremony. I am beyond grateful to Mr. Iger and everyone at Disney for this incredible honour.
