Clear the Shelters Where Are They Now: Sophie and Fred

The Lawrence Humane Society will waive adoption fees for all animals Saturday as part of the nationwide "Clear the Shelters" pet adoption drive.

On Saturday, August 19, seven shelters in ME will offer waived or reduced pet adoption fees to Clear the Shelters.

Since 2015, the event has led to more than 70,000 pet adoptions nationwide, according to Lisa Smith, director of the participating Humane Society Waterville Area, located at 100 Webb Road.

You can adopt a pet from the Kansas Humane Society for free on Saturday, August 19. If you adopt in Santa Monica, share your photographs on the Santa Monica Animal Shelter's Facebook page with #AdoptSantaMonicaAnimalShelter. They tell KSNT News past year they found homes for more than 100 animals.

The adoption fee for cats and kittens is normally $80 and with this initiative all cat adoptions with approved applications will be $10.

Across the country, over 50,000 pets found their homes a year ago during the Clear the Shelters event. The final tally for the San Diego region a year ago came to 777 animals.
