DACA program marks five-year anniversary with uncertain future

DACA program marks five-year anniversary with uncertain future

"The DACA program is a critical lifeline for almost 800,000 young immigrants who came to this country as children and know the United States as their home", Hedy Weinberg, ACLU-TN's executive director, said in a press release.

10 this year, Yeni Cortes, of New Haven, chased retired Marine Corps General John Kelly down a congressional hallway, telling him of her status as a dreamer and her hope of continuing the life she's lived in CT since age 2.

But the program - Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or DACA - is in danger of being rescinded after attorney generals from 10 states threatened legal action if the federal government doesn't begin to phase out the program by September 5. They or I should say we, come here with hunger, determination, and a fierce love of freedom.

The anniversary of the DACA program comes only days after Trump was criticized for being slow in criticizing the white supremacists protest in Charlottesvile, Virginia, that resulted in violence and the death of one counter-protester and injuries to several others. "Many of us are married, and many of us have kids here".

DREAMers are under imminent threat from Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton and a 10-state coalition calling for an end to DACA.

San Fernando Valley resident Paulina Jimenez was nearing her high school graduation when she applied for protection under DACA and said it gave her the opportunity to drive, pursue an education and get a job.

Since 2012, more than 700,000 young people have protected under DACA.

Instead, they asked the Trump administration not to grant legal status to any more children brought to the U.S illegally, and not to renew the applications of current dreamers when they reapply for legal status.

India on Monday whitewashed Sri Lanka in Test Series to claim their first ever complete Test series win in Sri Lanka. The 28-year-old also said that Independence day filled his heart with pride of being an Indian.

"It was hard for me, " Gomez said of her early years here. "We urge the President to continue our country's support of America's Dreamers", said Baltimore County Executive Kamenetz.

The 2012 DACA program gave him hope and helped further his career.

Although Trump promised during the campaign to deport all undocumented immigrants, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have stepped up their activities since Inauguration Day, the fate of DACA is unclear. But now DACA allows me to live a plentiful life with a sense of security that allows me to thrive.

"Educators deal with so many students, some who are documented, some who are undocumented".

DACA enabled Gasca to work her way through college, paying for her tuition and books.

"I'm hopeful", said De La Rosa.

The event was hosted by Navigate, a Minnesota advocacy group for young immigrants, along with the local chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the nonprofit Immigrant Law Center.
