LeT commander Lelhari killed in Pulwama encounter

"The militant tried to flee and fired upon the joint party which was retaliated in which he was killed", the spokesman said.

Ayub Lelhari, a commander of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Toiba, was killed in the encounter between security forces and militants in South Kashmir's Pulwama on Wednesday.

Kashmir has been witnessing vigorous anti-insurgency operations by security forces in the past few months, particularly after increase in militant activities following the killing of the Hizb commander Burhan Wani in July a year ago.

He was among the four security personnel injured in the attack on August 14.

An encounter between security forces and terrorists broke out on Wednesday in Kakpora's Banderpora in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir.

In the encounter which lasted for approximately 24 hours in Shopian's Awneera village, the forces succeeded in eliminating Hizbul commander Yasin Yatoo alias Mehmood Ghaznavi. "His killing is a major success and it has weakened the militant network in Pulwamam", the spokesman said.

In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred one Kashmiri youth in Pulwama district, today. Sources said Lelhari had been injured in a recent encounter and was being transported to Srinagar for treatment.

The police sources said that the fire fight in Pulwama village in which Ayub Lalhari was killed was "very brief".

"He was travelling in a cab alongwith driver and a civilian in Banderpora, Quil area". The police said was involved in number of offences including grenade attacks on Army camp, police post and killing of Sarpanch.

Earlier, on August 1, LeT Kashmir chief and most wanted militant Abu Dujana was killed alongwith two of his associates in an encounter with forces in south Kashmir.
